Австралія (анґліцькы: Australia, МФА: [əˈstreɪljə], од латиньскы austrālis — «южный»), офіціално Австральскый Союз (анґліцькы: Commonwealth of Australia[7], МФА: [ˈkɒm.ənˌwɛlθ əv əˈstreɪljə]) — штат на южній півкулї, твореный рівноменным контінентом, дале пак великым островом Тасманіа і множством меншых островів в Южнім, Індійскім і Тихім океанї[* 1];. На севері сусїдить (по морю) з Індонезіёв, Выходным Тімором і Папуов Новов Ґуінеов, на северовыходї із Шаламуновыма островами, Вануату і Новов Каледоніёв і на юговыходї з Новым Зеландом.
